LOVING TO GET TO HEAVEN

“Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints. v.5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel.”

The Colossians had love for all the saints.  The simple and wise.  The quiet and meek.   The dark-skinned and light-skinned.  The tall and short. The rich and poor.  The educated and uneducated.  The fat and lean.  They loved them all and they did it for this reason:  The hope that was laid up for them in Heaven.

My little children, The hope that is laid up for you in Heaven should be enough to motivate you to love all the saints—the Africans, the Asians, the Americans, West Indians, and so on.   

So what is LOVE and how do we show it?”  I Corinthians 13: 4-8 gives of an in-depth look at love or charity and how people who have LOVE behave and relate to the saints.  It will do us good to take a very close look at it and examine ourselves.

·       Love suffers long.

·       Love is kind.

·       Love does not envy.

·       Love vaunts not itself (to brag or boast).

·       Love is not puffed up (arrogant, pompous).

·       Love does not behave unseemly (inappropriate).

·       Love seeks not her own.

·       Love is not easily provoked.

·       Love thinks no evil.

·       Love does not rejoice in iniquity.

·       Love rejoices in truth.

·       Love bears all things.

·       Love believes all things.

·       Love hopes all things.

·       Endures all things.

·       Love never fails.

 I John 3:14 states “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren.  He that loveth not his brethren abideth in death.”

We know that we are going to Heaven instead of Hell because we love the brethren.  We know that Heaven is guaranteed for us because we love the brethren.  We know that eternal life is abiding in us because we love the brethren.

When we do not have godly love for the brethren, we are told that we are still abiding in death.  There has not been NO real change in us.  We are still walking in darkness and, therefore we are hell bound.   

My little children, I want to encourage you to change the course of your destiny and love all the saints in a godly way (not inappropriate relationships between men and women, men and men, and women and women), because not showing godly love to JUST ONE of them is a disqualification from Heaven.  Let this month be the month we examine ourselves again for GODLY LOVE.
