PERSISTENCE
Jesus taught us in the parable of the friend who went to his friend’s house at midnight for bread that it was his persistence that got him the bread, not because he was his friend.
It was also persistence that caused a young prophet to fall. He was told by God to go to a city to deliver a message and when he was finished that he should not eat bread, drink water, or return by the way from which he came.
When he was finished delivering the word of the Lord he was asked by the king to come to his house. He emphatically replied no he would not come even if he was offered half of the king’s house and told him why. On his way back he decided to rest where he met an old prophet who lied to him and persuaded him to return to his house.
While he was eating and drinking and doing what he was told not to do, the word of the Lord came to him through the old prophet which said because he disobeyed he would be eaten by a lion on his way back home, and he was.
Persistence may open a door to blessings or a door to your destruction. Do not yield when you have been given instruction from the Lord.
SCRIPTURES FOR MEDITATION
Luke 11:8 "I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth."
I Kings 13:9 "For so was it charged me by the word of the Lord, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.10 So he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Bethel."
Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God.
